Do you know what the most used computer peripheral is? No, it’s not the keyboard, even though it has a wide variety of buttons on it – like, for example, the shortcut buttons that allow you to launch the browser or shut down the computer with just a press of a button. The most used computer peripheral is the mouse. Think about it for a second. You constantly have it in your hand and you constantly find something to click. Even though there are keyboard shortcuts for most tasks, and even though a keyboard shortcut is sometimes faster than clicking, most computer users prefer the mouse over the keyboard.

Have you ever asked yourself just how much you use the mouse? And what answer did you come up with? Something along the lines of “a lot” will not suffice. If you need to really determine how much you use the mouse, then you need to get a specialized piece of software to help you out.

For each of life’s great dilemmas, there is a software application out there that can provide an answer. For the “how much do I use the mouse” question, the answer is provided by BlackSun Software-developed application called Mousotron.

Mousotron weighs in at about 1Mb, so downloading it should take but a moment. Installing it is just as easy – just 5 mouse clicks from launching the setup wizard to having the app up and running.

Once installed on your system, a Mousotron panel will appear. You can view a lot of info about your mouse usage with that panel. This info includes the total distance covered by moving the mouse cursor, the number of clicks, the number of times one uses the wheel and so on. The speed of the cursor can also be displayed.

The panel also provides something for the keyboard user – it records the number of keystrokes.
The panel also displays the amount of time that has passed since you launched Mousotron.

You can place the panel anywhere on the desktop for easy viewing. Or you can minimize it to the System Tray, bring it back into view a while later and check out the statistics.

Pros

The program is absolutely free. Besides that, it's very simple to use.

Cons

Certain users may not find the program useful. Mousotron is a fun little app that lets you stay on top of your mouse and keyboard usage by providing detailed statistics – how many times you left or right click, how many keys you press, and similar data.
